A Memory That Lives On in Paint
Sometimes, art isn’t just about creation. It’s a necessity. It’s a way to preserve what can no longer be held.
I want to share the story of a particularly special painting. It’s of my favourite tree in the Carlisle city. The one under which people met, which witnessed countless stories, and which radiated a sense of quiet, comforting life.
This year, it was cut down.
When I saw the empty space, my heart sank. And in that very moment, a resolution was born—I had to capture its beauty. Not the tree as it was on its last day, but as it lived in my memory: strong, blossoming, and full of life.
This painting has become my personal memorial. My way of saying, «You were here. You mattered.»
Now, a part of that tree continues to live—on the canvas in my studio. It still brings joy to the eye, still offers that same magic it did in life.
Art has a remarkable power—it can preserve what time irrevocably takes away.
Is there a place, a tree, or a corner in your life that now lives only in memory and photographs? I’d be honoured if you’d share your story.
